Job Description:
Basic Function and Overview: Lift Maintenance Mechanics are
responsible for maintaining, repairing and assisting in the
operation of chairlifts. Mechanics complete preventative
maintenance, troubleshoot malfunctions and perform daily
inspections and evaluations. The ideal candidate will enjoy working
independently and in a team setting, be mechanically minded, and
work well under pressure. Essential Tasks and Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not limited to: Understand maintenance
recommendations of all lift manufactures by interpreting schematics
and manufactures’ manuals. Understand and follow all ANSI, State
and Federal Regulations. Perform all routine maintenance procedures
under the guidance of the lift maintenance manager and senior
mechanics. Perform lift start-up procedures on assigned lifts prior
to arrival of lift operations staff. Ensure that all lifts are safe
for the public by performing drive machinery inspections and
service. Perform preventative maintenance and repair assigned
lifts. Follow all safety and risk management policies and
procedures including proper use of PPE, Hazard Communication, fall
protection, lock out/tag out procedures, etc. Demonstrate the
ability to perform basic work functions at heights on tower
equipment such as routine rope alignment, sheave change out, evener
replacement, brittle bar replacement, and monthly and annual
inspections. Ensure that the work area is free from clutter and all
materials and tools are properly cleaned and stored. Respond to
calls from Lift Operations and Ski Patrol in a timely manner. Work
with all resort staff and encourage a productive work environment.
Required Skills and Abilities: Comprehensive knowledge of ski area
and lift operations as well as ski lift terminology. Specific
knowledge of fixed-grip and detachable ski lift equipment and
operational procedures including PLC-type controls. Broad knowledge
of mechanical, brake, low and high-voltage electrical, and
hydraulic systems and their operation. Ability to troubleshoot and
train staff to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems on
all on-site lifts. Strong understanding of best maintenance
practices for ski lifts. Alertness, precision, ingenuity, memory,
concentration, judgment, aesthetic sense, reasoning, initiative,
patience, visual discrimination, problem solving, analytic ability,
persuasiveness, auditory, tactile, and olfactory discrimination,
imagination, oral and written communication skills are necessary
abilities. Ability to think critically and pay attention to detail.
Use considerable judgement to determine actions to be taken.
Perform well under high stress situations. Previous operation of
heavy equipment is a plus (telehandlers, skid steers, loaders,
etc.) Ability to read and understand hydraulic, mechanical, and
electrical prints. The ability to ski or snowboard is preferred.
Required Education and Experience: Minimum of 3 years lift
maintenance experience. High school degree or equivalent Must be 18
years or older. A vocational degree or beyond in mechanical or
electrical field is a plus. A Valid Driver’s License is required.
Physical Demands: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Able
to work outside for extended periods of time in adverse weather
conditions. Ability to work at heights in all weather conditions.
POTENTIAL CONSIDERATIONS from outside source: 20% of the workday is
spent indoors: 80% of the workday is spent outdoors in constantly
changing weather conditions, including but not limited to: extreme
cold and heat, snow, wet, thunder and lightning storms. 60% of the
day is spent walking, 35% of the day is spent standing and 5% is
spent sitting. Frequently lifting and carrying objects weighing up
to 100 pounds with assistance and pushing and pulling objects
weighing up to 250 pounds with assistance. Constantly using and
monitoring controls that operate lifts and using heavy tools.
Constantly climbing heights up to 65 feet, balancing, stooping,
kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, and
feeling. Constantly engage in normal conversation. Constantly
listening to machinery sounds and smelling for gases and odors,
using near and far acuity, depth perception, color, and field of
vision. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be
