The Vermont Public Utility Commission seeks an experienced Utility Engineer to review regulatory filings. The majority of the work involves reviewing petitions to construct electrical transmission and generation facilities, with responsibility for identifying significant issues within his or her areas of expertise. Other duties include: participating in site visits and evidentiary hearings; assisting the Commission and its staff in evaluating engineering aspects of proposed facility construction; and advising the Commission on engineering issues in other proceedings. The position is part-time and requires a time commitment of approximately 14 hours per week, although actual weekly hours may vary depending on the number of petitions for electrical transmission and generation facilities that are pending before the Commission. The Public Utility Commission regulates electric, energy efficiency, natural gas, telecommunications and water utilities in Vermont. Issues decided by the Commission include, among others: siting of utility facilities and non-utility renewable generation facilities; utility rates and other financial matters; and renewable energy, energy efficiency and telecommunications policies. See http://puc.vermont.gov Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in engineering and at least five years professional experience as an engineer. A strong candidate will have prior experience in utility regulation, energy industries, or related areas. Graduate work in engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a semester-for-six-months basis. Salary commensurate with applicant's background and experience. This position is eligible for the State of Vermont's retirement program, but not for the other components of the State's benefits package.
