Director Safety & Security

standard for our nation. The Director of Safety and Security will
oversee the leadership of the Security Department and serve as the
primary security advisor to the hospital community and our health
network. The Director will promote an environment guided by
exceptional customer service, collaboration, and continuous process
improvement standards. This position is responsible for developing,
implementing, and directing the Safety and Security services for
all Dartmouth-Hitchcock facilities as well as overseeing
hospital-wide safety programs to ensure the overall safety of
employees, patients, and visitors. The Director will also work in
conjunction with others to ensure compliance with all OSHA and
Joint Commission requirements for overall safety and ensure our
organization complies with federal, state, and local legal
regulations. The Director will also partner with local law
enforcement and exercise independent judgment while carrying out
overall responsibilities. Position specific duties:
- Directs the Medical Center's Security, Parking/Transportation
and Badging departments. Ensures appropriate levels of controlled
access and video surveillance are provided across the entire DHMC
- Provides and maintains documentation of all security, parking,
and ride sharing policies, procedures, training, incidents, and
other related issues.
- Consults with management staff in the development of security
policies and procedures. Assists in the inter-departmental
integration of these policies and procedures. Recommends,
administers, monitors, and enforces policies and procedures
relating to safety, parking, and ride sharing.
- Knows, practices, and monitors all codes, regulations,
accreditation standards, and documentation requirements relating to
security. Provides, participates in, and documents continuing
education programs to keep staff and themselves current in safety
and security measures.
- Responds to all Codes and provides emergency response to
situations where the safety and security of people or property are
threatened. In conjunction with Risk Management, investigates or
assists outside agencies in the investigation of on-site security
- Conceptualizes, designs, installs, monitors, and maintains
security hardware and software systems to promote better safety,
risk management and security surveillance of DHMC property and
- Provides leadership in security policy development, ensures
appropriate responses to security incidents, and performs scheduled
and unscheduled security audits, as required.--
- Oversees all activities in the Security Operation Center
- Acts as a liaison between Federal, State, and Local emergency
- Participates in Quality Improvement Committee (QIC), Patient
Safety Committee, Environment of Care Committee, Emergency
Management Committee, and Patient Experience Committee; Reports on
performance indicators for department.
- Responds to all Joint Commission inquiries and requests.
- Prepares, monitors and accounts for departmental budget.
Required: Bachelor's Degree with major course work in Business
Administration, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Security, or a
closely related field. Six plus years full-time supervisory
experience with institutional security.-- Strong leadership and
consensus building skills; customer-service mindset; operational
problem solving, and decision-making experience; calm under
pressure. Excellent written, oral, and organizational skills;
Strong knowledge of Excel, Word, Power Point Preferred: Master's
Degree with major course work in Business Administration, Criminal
Justice, Law Enforcement, Security, or a closely related field.
Required Licensure/Certification Skills: IAHSS Management
Certification-- AVADE Training/Crisis Prevention Certification
