Benefits Eligible Yes Job Description Summary The Director is
responsible for administration and coordination of the Counseling
and Human Relations program, composed of three graduate degree
programs (MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, MS in Human
Relations, and MS in School Counseling). The Director represents
the Program in national, state, local, university, and regulatory
and governmental arenas. The Director supervises and evaluates two
other full-time faculty members, the Clinical Coordinator/Clinical
Supervisor and those adjunct faculty members needed at any time,
one administrative assistant, and one graduate assistant. The
position involves development, coordination, monitoring, and
administration of degree programs, curricula, and pertinent
academic policies. In addition, the Director oversees screening,
admission, and evaluation of matriculated and
certification/licensing of students, coordinating assessment
practices, and program evaluation. The Director guides
accreditation and review of each degree program as appropriate.
Responsibilities also include teaching in areas of expertise,
scholarship, academic and career advising, and service. Duties and
Responsibilities Administrative: Within the College of Science and
Humanities and the School of Education, the Director participates
in university governance, effectively manages and promotes the
development of personnel and fiscal resources, and works with
administration to lead and develop degree programs and to explore
and implement viable new degree offerings within the Counseling and
Human Relations program. The Director monitors and manages all
information and data necessary to assess annually the program, its
students, and its faculty and staff. The Director supervises and
participates in the applicant screening, interview, and acceptance
process. The Director guides the process of student and faculty
professional development, professional performance, and evaluation.
Evaluative, assessment, and student outcome data will be collected
with the assistance of the assessment department and used to verify
success and to ensure compliance with accreditation and program
review criteria. Administrative duties include but are not limited
to developing and proposing budgets, reviewing and revising
curricula, coordinating program assessments and exams, reviewing
and revising policies and resources to support student outcomes,
and writing annual departmental progress reports and program
evaluations.
Teaching: The Director, who is also a ranked faculty member,
teaches 12 credits per year, a reduced teaching load of one course
per semester from the three credit load of graduate faculty.
Classroom teaching experience as well as online teaching experience
desired.
Scholarship and Professional Activity: The Director is expected to
maintain currency within his/her professional area of expertise and
to participate in scholarly activities as defined by the Faculty
Handbook. Up to one day per workweek may be negotiated for
professional consultation, research, and/or clinical practice.
Service: The Director is expected to facilitate and participate in
School of Education, College of Science and Humanities, and Husson
University meetings, retreats, committees, as well as serve on at
least one Faculty Forum or Institutional committee.
Responsibilities also include active engagement in University
governance.
Student Advising: The Director will assist with student and faculty
recruitment and retention strategies, so will interface with
potential applicants, and lead the screening, interview, and
selection of appropriate candidates. The Director/faculty member
will maintain student office hours and advise students, including
certification and licensing students, providing information and
advice for course selection and progress, and professional career
pathway development, following the policies and procedures
documented in the Husson Faculty Advising Manual. The Director will
advise and assist in developing remedial plans as appropriate for
those students who are in academic jeopardy according to
progression and dismissal policies. The Director reviews and will
approve if appropriate program completions and petitions for
graduation and will complete forms and letters of recommendation as
needed for licensure or certification and employment, upon a
student's successful completion of requirements. Education and
Experience Education: Earned PhD. or Ed.D. in Counselor Education
or closely related field, preferably from a CACREP -accredited
doctoral program.
Eligible for license as clinical mental health counselor ( LCPC )
in Maine.
Evidence of Counseling Professional identity ( ACA , AMHCA , ASCA ,
ACES membership). Experience: Minimum of 3 years of teaching
experience in Counselor Education, preferably in a CACREP
-accredited program. Experience in multiple
modalities-face-to-face, online, and hybrid required. Experience as
a Coordinator or Director of a counselor education program
(preferable CACREP accredited) preferred. Training and experience
in clinical supervision and school counseling and/or mental health
counseling preferred. Experience in program administration,
recruiting and evaluating faculty, developing and implementing
curriculum and policy, and budgeting are highly desirable.
Familiarity with CACREP accreditation process desired. Leadership
experience in the Counseling profession desired.
Special Skills:
Exceptional skills in written and verbal communication,
interpersonal relations and personnel management
Familiarity with higher education technology: Google suite,
learning management systems, virtual conferencing; assessment
software; and/or other educational tools.
Ability to make independent judgments
Ongoing record of scholarship
Demonstrated excellence in teaching
Knowledge of issues in higher education
In-depth understanding of contemporary counseling practice
Ability to work with university and off-campus constituencies
Evidence of long-range planning skills and visionary perspective of
Counseling and Human Relations programs and professions
Leadership and advocacy skills
Competence in organizational skills, program assessment and
evaluation, and financial management
Grant writing skills and experience desirable Physical Requirements
