Full-time, Exempt, Regular Position--The University of Maine System is seeking applications for a Strategic Projects Director. The person in this role serves overall as a trusted advisor and primary staff to the VCAA. Work entails coordinating the work of project leads for projects designated by the VCAA and includes overseeing projects to completion. Responsibilities encompass all stages of project management including assembling and directing the project team(s), developing work plans and schedules, allocating resources, determining assessment plans and ensuring overall project success. The Strategic Projects Director represents the VCAA and serves as a liaison for the VCAA and members of the VCAA---s Office with others within the University of Maine System Office, the universities, the Board of Trustees, and with internal and external constituencies where appropriate.--The work location is the Orono campus of the University of Maine. Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, the annual salary range is low to upper $70s plus 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Qualifications Required:

  • Master---s Degree
  • Minimum of three years direct work experience and extensive knowledge of project management practices
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of university and higher education issues and developments, academic policies and procedures
  • Ability to synthesize and communicate complex ideas regarding higher education and its mission
  • Demonstrated, proven track record of managing complex projects to meet expectations/goals, including the ability to manage budgets, meeting logistics and administration/project implementation - a record of getting things done.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, intuitive and strong network builder
  • Experience implementing work plans and procedures
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently under pressure of rigid deadlines and time limitations
  • Strong leadership, organizational and collaboration skills with the ability to effectively manage a broad range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated success developing and working in diverse, collaborative, project based-teams involving content experts, expert consultants and, potentially, technology developers
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to meet deadlines
  • Solutions oriented, creative problem-solver
  • Knowledge of assessment and evaluation practices, including a strong ability to analyze data and process, organize and synthesize new information
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively design, write and edit documents, reports and other deliverables
  • Demonstrated ability to support diverse perspectives and cultures, and a commitment to fostering a collaborative, inclusive environment.
  • Adaptability, flexibility, diplomacy and resourcefulness required.--Qualifications Preferred:
    • PhD, JD, or other terminal degree
    • Skilled in project management tool set(s)
