The Underwriting Manager has a dual position, lead a team of
Underwriters as well as underwrite large and/or complex accounts.
They assist in underwriting and pricing decisions on new and
renewal business in an assigned territory. The Underwriting Manager
will lead junior underwriters to achieve individual and
departmental goals in accordance with department guidelines,
authority levels and budget. The Underwriting Manager contributes
to the development of junior underwriters and other team members
while assisting in implementing short and long-term business
strategiesExecute: The Underwriting Manager is responsible for
underwriting operations and results within the area assigned as
well as the daily activity of assigned underwriting staff. The role
is also responsible for developing reports and analysis of data,
establishment and maintenance of underwriting/pricing guidelines
and departmental budgets.Skills and RequirementsAdvanced knowledge
of P & C commercial lines products (Property, General Liability and
Auto), coverage forms, rating plans, complex risk evaluation,
agency operations and program management. Advanced knowledge of the
concepts of Risk Management. Leads, mentors and builds effective
teams. The ability to develop, understand, manipulate and interpret
statistical information.Demonstrated ability to work
collaboratively across multiple departments.Effectively negotiates
and communicates challenging underwriting decisions to our internal
and external business partners. Creative problem solver; innovative
Self-motivated; works independently and is a critical
thinkerKnowledge/Experience/LicensesRequired: Bachelor's degree or
equivalent work experience Facultative reinsurance experienceHigh
level of knowledge of commercial lines P&C products (general
liability, property and auto insurance)Experience working with
agents and brokersPreferred: Ten years related experience in
commercial lines underwritingAt least 3 years of management
experience CPCU designation Public/Affordable housing operations
knowledgeDepartment OverviewThe Underwriting department evaluates
the risk of all current or prospective public and affordable
housing properties and operations eligible for insurance coverage.
The department fully analyzes risk and exposures and then prices
the account based upon established underwriting guidelines and
state regulations. The underwriting team's role also includes CAT
exposure analysis, coverage evaluation, price negotiation, program
profitability, market conditions, reinsurance requirements and
policy reviews. The team operates closely with various departments
including Claims, Marketing, Risk Control, and across the
organization to provide high level services/products to all
