Weidmann develops and manufactures--- high-voltage insulation materials, components and systems, predominantly from cellulose, as well as diagnostics and engineering services, and sensors and monitors for transformer manufacturers and operators (Business Area Electrical Technology)--- microfibrillated cellulose for innovative engineered applications (Business Area Fiber Technology)--- sophisticated injection-molded plastics applications for the medical and pharmaceuticals industries (Business Area Medical Technology)The Weidmann Group, headquartered in Rapperswil-Jona, Switzerland, is active worldwide in more than 30 locations and employs a staff of 3'200.Purpose:The Board Manager, a senior leader on the St. Johnsbury campus management team, ensures that production of products and processes meet or exceed safety, quality, service and productivity expectations. This will be accomplished by upholding company values, relentless continuous improvement, driving a team building environment and collaborating closely with other leaders.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:--- Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate all board production activities, ensuring goals and objectives are met.--- Lead and support leadership development of Board Supervision and Team Leader staff in coordination with company culture and leadership initiatives.--- Lead and maintain a safe and satisfying work environment through emphasis on accident prevention, oversight of department safety policies and/or procedures, task management of safety committees and involvement in safety investigations.--- Achieve total customer satisfaction by meeting the production schedule, adjusting as necessary to changes in customer requirements through frequent contact with Production Planning.--- Assure critical processes are identified, planned, controlled and results are measured.--- Assure that procedures and job expectations are defined and employees receive adequate communication training and evaluations.--- Develop cost center operations budget, including capital planning in collaboration with VP and E&M Manager. Achieve a capital budget that supports business goals and manage to monthly forecast.--- Create and maintain an environment of continuous improvement, development, and transformation through effective conflict resolution and change management.--- Drive department success of Safety, Quality, Employee Engagement, Collaboration, and Performance.--- Ensure board equipment and processes are available; maintained and capable of producing planned result.--- Ensure quality management system (QMS) requirements are met by providing training opportunities, communicating requirements, monitoring the productivity throughput of each department using formal reports and detailed observations including "management by walking around" and taking timely corrective action.--- Evaluate actual versus planned results and initiate corrective or preventative action as required. Lead and follow through on Safety and Quality RCA 's.--- Ensures efficient execution of Lean Six Sigma projects with a high degree of transparency until and including its full implementation with the required trainings and ramp-up of operational use as well as documentation in the Process Framework.--- Ensures that problems, errors and/or defects that surface in regard to products, documentation, procedures or materials are promptly brought to attention for correction.--- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing publications; participating in team-building and Leadership activities.--- Plan and implement business systems and technical projects to increase overall plant efficiency and capability. Seek assistance from department supervisors, engineers and other resources, internal and external.--- Plan effective shutdowns to facilitate preventive maintenance programs to maximize production.--- Provide short term and long term systems and equipment requirements based on technological and other changes related to internal and external business changes. Continually review marketplace needs.--- Provide the resources, organizational development and leadership to enable the plant workforce to be participative, productive, energetic and team oriented. Must project capability, confidence and trust with a focus on continuous improvement.--- Plan and implement a training system for plant employees to increase skills in business, operations technology and on the job.--- Sustain a Lean work environment through project management, lean tools and methodologies. Lead and participate in campus 5S observation tours Utilize problem solving techniques, teamwork building strategies, process control and continuous process improvement tools to meet or exceed the facility key operating statistics.--- Work closely with technical expertise to resolve Board Mill issues while ensuring corrective actions are created and implemented.Job Requirements:--- Bachelor's Degree in Pulp and Paper Science or Operations Management with experience running a board or papermill (cylinder experience preferred).--- Minimum of 15 years of manufacturing leadership experience.--- Proven success in career progression into a senior leadership role.--- Experience in 24/7 operation a plus.--- Proven leader who can motivate and mentor supervisory teams; works at an appropriate level and delegates responsibility.--- Comprehensive understanding and experience utilizing LSS methodology. Green Belt certification preferred.--- Ability to build strong relationships, work collaboratively across functions and synthesize multiple points of view into a streamlined action plan.--- Apply critical thinking and able to drive change through conflict resolution and management.--- Strong communication skills both verbal and in writing.
