Job Description:
Piper Shores is Maines premier nonprofit continuing care
retirement community, offering Independent Living, Assisted Living,
and Skilled Nursing Care for our residents with a person-centered
approach to care.The Recreation Manager is responsible for the
overall planning and implementation of a varied recreational
program designed to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual
needs of Holbrook residents Health Care and Assisted

Residents needs, preferences and choices.ESSENTIAL JOB
DUTIES:Reviews and develops resident programming, based on
resident-centered and individual needs. Supports Recreation staff
in program activities.Coordinates and provides recreation
activities; reality orientation, current events, discussion groups,
re-motivation therapy, sensory stimulation, cultural activities,
religious services, special entertainment, outings into community,
special events, and one-on-one visits, as required.Suggests a
program of recreation activities to relatives for use with
discharged residents; refers relatives to recreation resources and
services available in Piper Shores.Supervises Recreation
Assistant(s) and Recreational Therapist(s)/Professional(s) in the
Health Center and Assisted Living, including scheduling their time,
participating in the hiring process, making recommendations for
performance reviews and disciplinary actions, coaching and
motivating, and other supervisory functions.Participates in the
research, preparation and writing of recreation department
budget.Including allocation of supplies and equipment and present
to Administrator for approval. Develops recreation budget with
Administrator and maintains a positive variance once it is
finalized each year.Coordinates resident Council and family
meetings. Arranges special meetings for residents and families to
address special interest and provide educational
opportunities.Develops and maintains a positive relationship with
family members of patience by orienting them to recreation
services, by encouraging meaningful participation and asking for
suggestions for program improvementPerforms and directs the
movement of residents to and from recreational areas.Prepares and
maintains activity records, reports, studies and schedules in
accordance with State and Federal regulations to include completion
of MDS as it relates to recreation programming.Participates in
Piper Shores Quality Improvement Committees and Resident Health and
Wellness Committee meetings. Is responsible for discussing
opportunities of improvement and reporting these findings to the
appropriate committee.Is a contributing member of Holbrook
Leadership and the Leadership Teams.Purchases and inventories
supplies and equipment. Inspects recreation equipment to determine
repair and maintenance needs and cleanliness.Interprets and
communicates the goals and objectives of the recreational program
to staff, volunteers, relatives and the public.Directs volunteer
program (both external and resident volunteers) including
procurement of volunteers, training and supervision.Maintains
accurate documentation of residents progress and responses to
program.Completes the resident care plans, and attends
resident/family conferences.Coordinates activity programming with
other departments and supports ongoing programming evaluation and
revision.Works in a safe manner to prevent injury to self and
others.Maintains the self-respect, personal dignity, and physical
safety of each resident.Attends in-service training and education
session, as assigned.Will drive Piper Shores vehicles and/or
accompany residents for activity transportation as needed.Is
knowledgeable of and upholds resident rights. Ensures patient
confidentiality of all protected health information.Performs
specific work duties and responsibilities assigned by
Administrator.Adheres to all Piper Shores policies to include
Mission, Vision and Values.QUALIFICATIONS:Solid experience managing
a recreation program in a long-term care facility. Experience in
implementing a life stories model of activity programming
preferred.State of Maine Activities Coordinator certification
required. Certificate of Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)
preferred.Bachelors degree preferred.Thorough knowledge of current
State regulations.Supervisory experience.Excellent communication
skills, verbal and written.Knowledge of MS Office Suite, along with
ability/desire to learn desktop publishing software programs.Valid
