Design Operations Lead (Fuse by Cardinal Health) What User Experience Design contributes to Cardinal Health: The design team at Fuse is responsible for researching and designing intuitive, useful, and usable experience for users of Cardinal Health's commercial products-exceptional experiences that add business value and differentiate our offerings in the market. As DesignOps Lead you will keep the team focused, efficient, and creative as they advance human-centered design across our product portfolios. You'll design and manage systems to improve overall team communication, culture, collaboration, removing roadblocks along the way-building the rails and removing the friction in our design practice so team members have the time and focus to create amazing products. The space is exploding with the convergence of new technologies, health sector shifts, and a growing demand for open access to health information. Expectations are higher than ever for simple, useful, and delightful experiences as more people interact with the world via the web and an array of mobile devices. It's a landscape ripe for thoughtful design collaboration with business and engineering to build next generation products that people will love. RESPONSIBILITIES - Day-to-day, the Design Operations Lead---

  • Amplifies the value of design teams by aligning, enabling, and streamlining practices, tools and principles where needed
  • Leads through influence to build relationships, create a vision for new way of working, and change behavior as the practice evolves
  • Iterates on processes that optimize designers' day-to-day workflow-maximizing engagement and reducing duplicated efforts
  • Prioritizes and coordinates new initiative work, assigning resources and managing scope changes
  • Spearheads selection and procurement of 3rd party design tools and systems needed to execute great research & design work
  • Manages software licenses and other ongoing design tool partnerships/agreements
  • Procures outside services for team-wide needs (e.g. training, consulting, specialized design expertise)
  • Ensures systems for design process documentation, assets, and file management are effective and designs new ones where gaps or inconsistencies exist
  • Tracks and reports on status of design budgets and forecasts team needs (i.e. staffing, tools, training, consulting)
  • Leads implementation of automation to track metrics for design team integration, impact, talent, and financial health-and communication of that health to leadership
  • Facilitates design staffing operations, including capacity planning, recruiting, hiring, and on/offboarding
  • Coordinates the career path process, helping design team members understand and navigate opportunities to grow in their role
  • Communicates and nurtures design team and Fuse cultural values
  • Coordinates design team meetings and rituals, company-wide presentations, and team-building events
  • Monitors team and organizational health and helps facilitate mentoring and coaching support to continually improve it
  • Manages key communications between teams and the enterprise and from team-to-team
  • Evangelizes human-centered design thinking throughout Fuse and the larger Cardinal Health organization
  • Builds thought leadership in Design Operations inside and outside the company REQUIREMENTS-The ideal candidate will have:
    • 7-10 years experience in the design space--(4+ years experience in a design operations role working directly with a design team and an additional 3+ yrs working in a design team - e.g. as designer, researcher, manager)
    • Bachelor's degree in design, business or equivalent experience
    • A real passion for working with people; supporting and enabling them-and you-to do the best work of your lives
    • Strong operational and facilitation skills, with a proven ability to plan, coordinate and execute on continual process improvement
    • Excellent communication and diplomatic skills, possessing the ability to quickly develop rapport with team members, cross-functional partners, and leadership
    • An ability to work with multiple leadership styles and be effective in unstructured and ambiguous environments
    • The presence and maturity to lead team members without direct reporting authority
    • The nimbleness to adapt and thrive in a constantly evolving organization, with an eagerness to tackle new challenges as they arise
    • Demonstrated command of design practices and an understanding of when to adapt processes to meet the needs of the team
    • Design savvy enough to evaluate design candidate portfolios and design tool/service vendors
    • The skills to balance strategic planning and accommodating fast-moving new requests to meet business needs
    • Familiarity with agile principles, modern product management, and project management methodologies and tools
    • An ability to work remotely
    • Eventual relocation to central Ohio area desired Nice to have:
      • Working knowledge of design systems
      • Experience supporting user research operations
      • At least 3 years in project management and relevant toolsets Accountabilities:
        • Applies advanced knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles, and technical capabilities to manage a wide variety of projects
        • Participates in the development of policies and procedures to achieve specific goals
        • Recommends new practices, processes, metrics, or models
        • Works on or may lead complex projects of large scope
        • Projects may have significant and long-term impact
        • Provides solutions which may set precedent
        • Independently determines method for completion of new projects
        • Receives guidance on overall project objectives
