Accordingly, employment is conditioned on providing proof of vaccination or having an approved exemption prior to starting employment **** Join us-Where your Career is a Force for Good!Job Description:Come bring your ASCP Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS), Medical Technologist (MT), or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) license and passion for blood banking to support the life-saving mission of the American Red Cross Blood Services. We are looking for a full-time Technologist to work in our Reference Lab performing specialized testing to serve our local hospital clients.Perform basic and guided advanced donor and patient tests and interpret results to determine donor-recipient compatibility. Resolve compatibility problems; provide intermediate reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion services. Perform automated and manual test procedures on blood samples. Adhere to explicit standard operating procedures and interpret test results in accordance with the applicable regulatory requirements. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.Responsibilities: Consult and communicate with staff at other medical facilities, to resolve serologic problems and provide special units to transfusion recipients.Manage receipt, coordination, shipment and transport of patient and donor blood samples, to include ordering, receiving, inspecting and preparing reagents associated with donor product inventory.Maintenance of the exceptional and rare donor products. Perform and interpret independent basic and complex donor and/or patient testing procedures and complete required quality control, as appropriate to state and federal regulations.Recognize testing irregularities, identify the cause, determine the solution and resolve the problem or refers it to the appropriate level.May assume lead responsibilities to maintain, edit and review computer and manual records to assure accurate record keeping. Maintain accurate, legible and complete records. Also perform maintenance repair and validation of laboratory equipment and software maintenance.May perform internal staff training, competency reviews, and external customer education.Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in Biological Science or Chemistry, MT(ASCP) or BB(ASCP)/ equivalent certification preferred. Licensure if required by stateExperience: Minimum 3 years in blood banking.Skills/Abilities: Good written and verbal skills to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
