Summary Position Summary (This position will consist of 36 hours per week, 12 hour shifts from 6:45am to 7:15pm)

The Me Surg Charge Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for exercising independent judgment in assessing the patient, planning the nursing care needed, implementing and directing others in the care to be provided and evaluating the patient's response to care, thereby determining when changes to the plan of care are appropriate. This RN exercises independent judgment in the assignment and direction of RNs, Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs), and Unit Secretaries. The MSU Charge RN works collaboratively with the Medical Staff, Nursing Staff, Administration, Support Services, and Ancillary personnel to assure safe, quality patient care.

The Medical Surgical Department is a 23-bed unit that includes a swing bed program. Care is provided across the adult life span to those that are experiencing illness and are appropriate in a critical access community hospital setting. Provision of care includes telemetry, orthopedics, post-operative, skilled rehab, comfort care, palliative care, and hospice.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)




Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
License/Certifications: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine.
Experience: N/A
