Shift: Shift 3 Shift Details: CCU and PCU with Oncology,
Orthopedic, Cardiology and Med/Surg units also available ;12 hour
night shifts; every other weekend and rotating holidays Backus
Hospital is proud to offer a Nurse Residency program to help newly
licensed nurses successfully transition into clinical practice by
providing support, resources and mentorship. We care about you and

professional nursing journey. We have partnered with the
Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program to provide resources to help
new nurses gain confidence and increase competence during this
12-month program. Your well-being as a new nurse is enhanced
through hands-on training and processing clinical experiences.
Nurse Residents will be hired directly to a specialty area where
they will receive focused clinical education. The positions offered
vary based on the needs of the hospital and may include Critical
Care, Progressive Care Unit, Med / Surg, Cardiology / Telemetry,
Emergency, Operating Room, Oncology and Orthopedic units. In
addition to clinical immersion on the unit, Nurse Residents meet in
a classroom format to share experiences and receive additional
education and training. Who is enrolled in a nurse residency
program?
--- Every newly licensed RN (completion of NCLEX with active CT RN
license) with less than one-year experience
--- Program enrollment is based on hire date Graduates of this
12-month program will:
--- Gain clinical autonomy at the point of patient care
--- Incorporate research-based evidence into their practices to
advance safe, high-quality nursing care
--- Strengthen commitment to nursing as a career choice
--- Increase competence and critical thinking

now!Qualifications Education: Graduate of a school of nursing (or
soon to be)
Experience: New RN Graduate Nurses or newly licensed RNs.
License and Certification:
--- Active State of CT RN license. New graduates may start
employment under Graduate Nurse license status (per the State of CT
DPH guidelines) with pending license and must successfully complete
first NCLEX testing and hold active license within 90 days from
graduation date. Once active state of CT RN license is obtained
newly-licensed nurse will be placed into Nurse Resident program
cohort sessions.
--- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire.
--- Ability to obtain and maintain department specific
certifications. By completing the Nurse Residency Program,
newly-licensed nurses are able to competently and safely manage a
full patient assignment with confidence, and will be
well-positioned to become future leaders in the nursing
profession.
