facilities. Position Summary: The Registered Nurse on the Adult
Chemical Dependency unit is an essential member of our patient care
team who is responsible for the delivery of direct and indirect
patient care through the nursing process in all assigned areas.
They will be responsible for consistently and independently
conducts a thorough admission interview and systematic physical
assessment, assessing the needs for services of other health care
professionals to facilitate the delivery of patient care, and
developing, implementing and revising appropriate patient care
plans. They will carefully and thoroughly document patient
conditions, care given and responses to care given and performs
patient education and facilitates groups. The Adult Chemical
Dependency Unit provides care to patients ages 15 and older. The
most frequent diagnoses' are physiological dependency to alcohol,
opiates, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and/or other drugs. Many
patients will also have other associated psychiatric diagnoses'
such as depression, psychosis, and bipolar disorder. The Adult
Chemical Dependency Unit operates 24 hours a day, seven days a
week. The Adult Chemical Dependency Unit is located on the D4 wing
of St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. Key Responsibilities:
Identifies and addresses client needs by conducting nursing
assessments, developing nursing interventions and providing nursing
care by following professional standards and in accordance with
program policies and procedures. Assesses, evaluates and responds
to changes in client conditions, documenting and reporting such
changes to appropriate person to assure prompt response to client
needs. Monitors and provides emergency medical care and daily
medical treatments to medically compromised clients. Provides
medical monitoring of detoxification and utilizes protocols as
ordered by physician. Demonstrates knowledge of techniques related
to the use of restraint and seclusion; including restraint and
seclusion reduction principles comprising skills related to
prevention, de-escalation, and debriefing. Conducts and/or
participates in clients’ admissions, discharges, transfers, and
orientation to the unit as necessary and in accordance with program
protocols. Communicates with physicians, transcribes orders,
maintain controlled medication counts and document to maintain
accurate client records. Assures controlled substance count and
syringe count as required by standards and ensures accurate records
are kept in accordance with identified protocols. Assists in
monitoring inventory, ordering of medications, and equipment needed
for daily operation of the unit in collaboration with the pharmacy.
Functions as the medication nurse as assigned. Requirements:
PERMANENT ADDRESS MUST BE MORE THAN 50 MILES FROM THE HOSPITAL
Traveler must be willing to float to Inpatient Adult Behavioral
Heatlh and Detox units BLS certification required CPI Required
“Staff must be trained and able to demonstrate competency in the
application of restraints, implementation of seclusion, monitoring,
assessment, and providing care for a patient in restraint or
seclusion.” to ensure competency has been validated by the agency
employing the staff member Experience: Maximum Three years of
Alcohol and Addiction RN Behavioral Health Experience Required
