3/3/2026 About the Position Job Title: Registered Nurse -
Intermediate Care Unit Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty:
Intermediate Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per
Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year in Intermediate/PCU level
of care experience. If only Med/Surg experience, a minimum of 2
years in an Intermediate/PCU role is required. First-time travelers
must have completed at least two 13-week assignments. License:
Current nursing license required. Certifications: BLS ACLS NIHSS
AACCN (preferred) CCRN (preferred) Must-Have: Charge experience is
preferred. Neuro/Trauma experience is required, specifically with
stroke patients and performing neuro checks every two hours.
Experience with medical/surgical high-flow oxygen, chest tubes,
wound vacs, Bipap, general drain/ostomy care, IV starts, and care
for trached patients on vents is essential. Cardiac experience,
including temporary pacemakers, TR bands, post-femoral sheath care,
and cardiac rhythm interpretation, is necessary. Experience with
cardiac drips (Amiodarone, Cardizem) and insulin titration is
required. Description: As soon as possible start required. The
facility is a Level II Trauma Center. They provide care for various
patient populations, including trauma patients, neuro strokes, and
stable craniotomies. Patients may present with respiratory
illnesses such as COVID, flu, pneumonia, or exacerbations of COPD.
The unit cares for post-op general surgery patients, sepsis, IV
drug abusers, and patients experiencing a thyroid storm. The
patient types include cardiac patients presenting with STEMI,
NSTEMI, CHF, AFIB with RVR, those who have undergone cardiac cath
or ablation, and patients 24 hours post TAVR. Patient ratios are
1:3-4 for RNs and 1:6-12 for techs, depending on staffing. Support
on the unit includes CNAs, a charge nurse, phlebotomy, resource
nurses, hospitalists, and trauma surgeons. Specialized teams are
present for US-guided IVs and PICC/Midline placement. The charting
system is Cerner, and familiarity is preferred. Floating to the ED,
ICU, or CCU may occur if intermediate assignments are needed in
those departments. Weekend rotations occur every other weekend.
There may be low census call-back expectations, and time off
requests must be approved through management. Holiday expectations
vary based on unit needs. Required attire is scrubs of any
