Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: LDRP - Labor Delivery Recovery & Postpartum - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 03/09/2026 - Duration: 11 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, nights - Employment Type: Travel Job Title: Obstetrics RN (L&D, Postpartum, Nursery) Location: Machias, ME Contract Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Shift (19:00 – 07:00) Start Date: ASAP / Quick Start Job Summary Down East Community Hospital is seeking a versatile and highly skilled Obstetrics RN to provide holistic care across the full spectrum of maternal-child health. This "Quick Start" role requires a nurse who can work independently within Labor & Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum, and the Nursery. You will be responsible for assessing, planning, and evaluating care for antepartum, intrapartum, and post-operative GYN patients while promoting a seamless, team-based environment with physicians and staff. Key Responsibilities - Full-Spectrum OB Care: Provide independent nursing care for laboring patients, assist in deliveries, and manage immediate post-delivery recovery. - Maternal-Infant Support: Oversee postpartum care and nursery duties, ensuring the health and safety of both mother and newborn. - Clinical Judgment: Demonstrate advanced nursing judgment in high-stakes situations, including managing obstetric emergencies and neonatal resuscitation. - Patient Education: Provide essential teaching to new parents regarding breastfeeding, infant care, and postpartum recovery. - Documentation: Maintain accurate patient records using the Cerner EMR system. Requirements & Qualifications - Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with specific, mandatory experience in Labor and Delivery. - Licensure: Active Maine State RN License (or compact) required in hand. - Certifications: - BLS & ACLS - NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - S.T.A.B.L.E. Certification - Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. - Vaccination: COVID-19 vaccination is required per state mandate. Assignment Details & Expectations - Schedule: 36 hours per week (3x12-hour Night shifts). - Holiday Coverage: Required as part of the rotation. - Work Environment: Small community hospital setting requiring a high degree of independence and flexibility across all OB sub-specialties.
