Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a
Labor & Delivery (LDRP) position in Maine, requiring a ME or
compact license and proficiency in all phases of labor, postpartum,
and newborn care. Details - Night shift schedule: 7PM–7AM, 12-hour
shifts, 36 hours per week - Small community hospital with 64 beds,
4 labor beds and 4 postpartum beds, averaging approximately 200
births per year - LDRP model — patients remain on the unit through
antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum/couplet care; travelers
must be comfortable with all phases including well-baby care -
Level III Nursery; rooming-in model with no dedicated nursery RN —
the bedside RN provides all newborn care - Primary patient
population is low-risk OB; all high-risk laboring patients are
transferred out - Patient types include postpartum hemorrhage,
pre-eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, hyperbilirubinemia, NAS babies, and
feeders/growers - Unit also receives low-acuity Med/Surg overflow
patients (IV antibiotics, swing bed, or rehab); no infectious or
telemetry patients - Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:2
laboring, 1:1 active labor, 1:3–4 couplets, 1:2–3 Med/Surg overflow
- Every other weekend rotation required - No on-call
responsibilities - Every other holiday coverage required - Floating
to MS or ED is for task assistance only — no patient assignment is
taken - Charting system: Cerner Requirements - Active RN license —
ME state or compact license required - Required certifications:
BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring -
STABLE certification required; must be completed within 30 days of
start if not already held - Minimum 2 years of L&D experience
required; first-time travelers must have at least 3 years of
L&D experience - Experience with all phases of LDRP care
including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and well-baby care -
Skills required: shoulder dystocia management, epidural management,
nitrous oxide administration, intrathecal spinal analgesia, and
neonatal care (VS, thermoregulation, hypoglycemia, bilirubin, NAS)
- Cerner EMR experience preferred - Must have never worked at a
Northern Light Health Hospital in a permanent capacity - Permanent
address must be 100 miles south/southwest of Bangor, ME (candidates
living 100 miles north are considered on a case-by-case basis) -
Two professional references within the past year required, at least
one from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge nurse (no peer
references) - Full SSN, Driver's License, and copies of all
certifications required for consideration - Flu vaccination
required for clearance to start (medical exemptions only, subject
to facility review) Additional Information - Responsibilities
include full LDRP nursing care: labor support, delivery,
postpartum, couplet care, and all aspects of well-baby care in a
rooming-in model - Candidate must be comfortable caring for
low-acuity Med/Surg overflow patients (IV antibiotics, swing bed,
rehab) in addition to OB patients - Candidates must also be
comfortable entering C-sections to receive the baby and provide
neonatal care; circulating C-sections is not required - Unit is
staffed with at least 2–3 nurses overnight; support includes a
charge nurse, midwife, OB (on-call), HUC (4 days/week), phlebotomy,
RT (24/7), and hospitalist (24/7) - Orientation consists of general
hospital orientation plus 1 unit shift - Scrubs: any professional
color; procedural scrubs provided for OR use only - Free parking
available on site - All RTO requests must be submitted at the time
