The Greater Manchester Region has approximately 2,500 employees. It
includes Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 249-bed community
hospital, Rockville General, a campus of Manchester Memorial
Hospital, a 102-bed facility, a large multispecialty provider group
and visiting nurse services. The Greater Manchester Region serves a
region of 300,000 people in 19 towns. POSITION SUMMARY: This
position provides direct and indirect clinical services to all
patients requiring behavioral health intervention presenting in the
Manchester and Rockville General Hospital Emergency Departments.
Responsible for providing appropriate age assessment and treatment
to a diverse population with multiple needs. Core skills include
crisis triage and assessment, individual and family intervention,
case management, community collaboration, patient/family education,
insurance verification and collaboration and treatment planning and
placement to appropriate level of care. As skill sets permit, may
provide flexible coverage to another service within Behavioral
Health on a short-term basis. COMPETENCIES: This position requires
strong clinical skills including a demonstrated strong team
orientation. Strong written as well as verbal communication using
the English language is absolutely essential. Computer competency
with basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook is
essential. Strong knowledge of psychiatric and risk assessment is
essential. Knowledge of abuse and neglect reporting mandates, duty
to warn mandates, knowledge of community-based resources and
experience with Managed Care Organizations are all desirable.
Flexibility in approach so that service specific as well as overall
system needs can be met is critical. Must be able to function
effectively and independently in a work environment where
multitasking is necessary. Level of care age specific competencies
is required. Must be capable of taking swift and efficient action,
including patient restraint when responding to patient emergency

individual and/or group supervision. Applies a variety of
interventions and resources to effectively treat a population
diverse in age and diagnosis as evidenced by chart reviews.
Demonstrates knowledge and respect for cultural differences in
respect to the treatment approach as evidenced through
documentation and case reviews. Exhibits up to date knowledge of
community resources and has ability to access resources as
appropriate to meet patient needs, as evidenced by case reviews and
chart reviews. Conveys warmth, genuineness, and empathy. Respects
the patient as a whole person with strengths and needs as evidenced
through direct observation and patient feedback. Interviews
patients in a timely manner while reviewing all pertinent clinical
information, contacting appropriate clinical providers and may
include family during interview based on the clinical judgment of
the clinician as evidenced by case and chart reviews. Functions as
a behavioral health resource to emergency department staff,
patients, families, and community resources as evidenced by direct
observation. Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to meet the
department’s needs for scheduling and coverage for the two
Emergency Departments as evidenced by direct observation. Exhibits
the ability to multi-task while continuing to move patients through
the system effectively and appropriately meeting their clinical
needs as evidenced through direct observation. Is conscientious,
productive and fulfills responsibilities without reminders as
evidenced by direct observation, and chart audit. Exercises good
judgment in seeking help and /or while acting independently as
evidenced by direct observation and individual and group
supervision. Contacts Managed Care Organizations negotiating
authorization for appropriate level of care and documents efforts
as evidenced by chart reviews. Completes all requested/required
forms, letters and documentation requirements with accuracy and
thoroughness in a timely manner and in accordance with JCAHO,
Managed Care, and other standards with which the Program must
comply as evidenced by chart audit. Effectively uses psychological
and physical management techniques to manage violent or potentially
violent situations consistent with Physical Management Training
(PMT), as evidenced by peer and supervisor observation.
Participates in Early Response codes and Dr. Strong codes.
Qualifications EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Master’s Degree and
licensure in a Behavioral Health field is required as Licensed
Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed LPC, LMFT or equivalent.
Must receive certification in PMT de-escalation tec hniques within
6 months of hire into the role and maintain active certification.
