Job Description:
Job Description Job Summary: The Ultrasonographer performs all
routine and specialized sonographic testing, covers emergency-call
back, and performs all necessary clerical tasks to support patient
testing. Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Supports and
promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry. -
Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic general ultrasound
examinations and procedures. - Correlates the clinical history with
the test to be performed. - Uses sonographic skills to identify and
record appropriate anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic images.
- Demonstrates responsibility for the safety, mental, and physical
comfort of patients while in the technologist/sonographer's care. -
Prepares patients for examinations and explains procedures to
patients. - Consult with the referring physician and patient’s
medical record regarding the patient’s history to determine the
appropriate procedure, when necessary. - Performs all General
Ultrasound assisted procedures. - Consults with the Radiology
Medical Director or Director of Diagnostic Services when necessary.
- Operates complex ultrasound equipment, monitors, recorders, and
other patient assessment equipment pertinent to departmental needs.
- Select appropriate equipment and transducer frequency/size for
proper examination. - Differentiates artifacts from normal or
pathological processes and recognizes electronic equipment
limitations. - Follows protocols and can deviate from normal
techniques when necessary and develop better methods to keep the
department up to date. - Provides technical and nursing aid for
general ultrasound interventional procedures (i.e., Biopsy,
Interoperative). - Operates and maintains equipment. - Produces
high-quality sonograms. - Provide on-call emergency coverage as
required by the department. - Provides patient care, assessment of
needs, and education, relative to testing. - Maintains pertinent
records and EMR documentation. - Demonstrates knowledge of physics,
instrumentation, and physiology relative to sonographic exams. -
Keeps current in the area of technical expertise by performing
directed readings and attending seminars and workshops. -
Monitors/evaluates equipment performance. - Evaluate images for
technical quality. - Reports and documents equipment problems. -
Uses IT / IS systems to schedule, book, review and ensure patient
appointments are complete and accurate for Imaging patients and
departments. Works with Central scheduling on appropriate
appointments and scheduling, to avoid double booking, smooth
patient throughput, and availability for add-ons, as needed. -
Prints/Reviews schedules for reconciliation of orders, protocols,
and patient instruction communication before patient arrival. -
After review, block the schedule to only Emergent Add-on status
until the actual date. - Schedules General Ultrasound exams,
studies, and procedures for all patients related to General
Ultrasound OR procedures, add-ons, walk-ins, and as needed. -
Reports scheduled encounters to Radiologists, sonographers,
Radiology Nurses, and Breast Health Navigators to coordinate
scheduling resources and patient care coordination. - Completes
scheduled events initiated by Central Scheduling with a review of
the written order. Locates, orders, obtains, & documents previous
modality-specific imaging from outside facilities. - Verifies
accuracy of medical diagnosis and “reason for the exam” for all
patient appointments, physician’s orders, and schedules using
available resources. - Processes all pertinent forms and forwards
them to the Imaging Front Office for those documents to be scanned
into the EHR for documentation. - Performs order communication
functions with the IT/IS systems. - Properly enters orders and
charges into the IT/IS system. - Address billing inquiries and
issues promptly and with the appropriate person for resolution. -
Performs miscellaneous duties as requested and needed. - Maintains
required licenses, certifications, and competencies, and completes
annual compliance courses on time. - Supporting student learning is
a shared responsibility. Every team member is expected to

Job Requirements Job Knowledge and Skills - Must have grayscale
discrimination. - Responsible, supportive team player. - Ability to
work well in high-stress situations. Education and Experience -
Associate degree preferred. - Graduate of ARDMS school of
sonography. - License in the State of Maine. - ARDMS registration
required. - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

reflects the beginning of the pay scale. At the time of an offer,
