Registered Nurse (RN) | Psych Location: Bangor, ME Agency: Cynet Health Pay: $2,236 per week Shift Information: Nights - 3 days x 12 hours Contract Duration: 13 Weeks Start Date: 4/27/2026 About the Position TravelNurseSource is working with Cynet Health to find a qualified Psych RN in Bangor, Maine, 04401! Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse - Pediatric Psych Specialty: Psychiatric Unit - Pediatric Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7P-7A Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing required. License: State License required. Certifications: BLS MOAB will be obtained on site as part of orientation. Must-Have: - De-escalation experience. - Experience with physical restraints. - Comfortability to run groups. - Strong documentation skills. Description: Start date is needed. Candidates must be willing to float between adult and pediatric patients. This is a free-standing acute inpatient facility. All patients come from an emergency department and are medically cleared. It is not typical to have lines, drains, tubes, etc. Admissions include both involuntary and voluntary patients. Pediatric patients range from ages 5-18. Adult patients are 18 and older, including geriatric patients. Common pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria. Adult patients commonly present with schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, and bipolar disorder, including eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety. The facility does not accept forensic patients or inmates. The facility is locked but not to the extent of holding patients under arrest. Seclusion rooms are used when necessary. Occasionally, patients with substance use disorders or those detoxing may be seen, but they must be medically cleared. The unit provides traditional medical and psychiatric care, as well as specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens. Patient ratios for RNs are 1:5-6 during the day and 1:13 at night, with resource support available. Psych Tech support includes 6 Techs during the day for pediatrics and 2 Techs at night. Adult support includes 2 Techs both during the day and at night. Support on the unit includes a nurse supervisor available in the evenings and weekends, and a nurse manager available during the day. Management is open to communication regarding any issues. Staff includes a contracted phlebotomist, a nurse practitioner onsite until 4 PM and on call overnight, and daily rounds by a psychiatrist. Occupational therapy is available seven days a week. Security is onsite but does not respond to patient escalations. Charting is done using a specific system. Floating to both adult and pediatric units is required. If travelers are not comfortable floating to pediatrics, manager approval is needed. Weekend rotations consist of every other weekend. Holiday work is expected in rotation. Approval for time off is available for up to 7 days, but shifts must be covered within a week. Scrub color is any solid color as long as it is professional. Heavy snow conditions are expected during winter months. In case of a patient escalation, there is a code leader who assigns roles while verbally de-escalating the patient. Travelers may have the opportunity to function as the code leader. A debriefing form should be completed following any escalations. Management will round on the situation to provide assistance. MOAB training will be reviewed onsite. Travelers are encouraged to request more practice with de-escalation if needed. Scenario-based training occurs every other week for practice if required.
