Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a
Surgical Services Manager position overseeing a multi-department OR
setting in Maine, requiring a minimum of 3 years of OR management
experience and an active ME or compact RN license. Details -
Position is based in a 64-bed community hospital (staffed for 40)
with no trauma designation - Manager will oversee 4 ORs, 11
Pre-op/PACU beds, Sterile Processing, Pre-admission Testing, and 3
Schedulers/Patient Service Representatives - Average surgical
volume is 15–25 cases per day - Patient population includes adults
and minimal pediatrics across general surgery, urology, ENT,
OB/GYN, orthopedics, and endoscopy case types - Specific procedures
include open and laparoscopic general surgery, laser lithotripsy,
T&As, C-sections, total joint replacements, and endoscopies
(EGDs and colonoscopies) - Monday–Friday schedule, 0700–1600 - No
scheduled weekend shifts or on-call, though occasional weekend or
holiday calls/questions may occur - No floating required - Cerner
EMR — experience preferred - No holiday shift coverage required,
though occasional questions or calls during holidays are possible
Requirements - Active ME or compact RN license required - BSN or
higher required - Current BLS and ACLS certifications required;
PALS preferred - Minimum of 3 years of OR Manager or Director
experience required; 5 years preferred - Experience supporting a
broad range of OR case types including general surgery, urology,
ENT, OB/GYN, and orthopedics - Strong leadership skills including
staff accountability, budget management, scheduling, and
performance improvement - Candidates must not have previously
worked at any Northern Light Health Hospital in a permanent
capacity - Two professional references from within the past year
required, with at least one from a supervisor, manager, or director
(charge nurses accepted; peer references not accepted) - Full SSN,
Driver's License, and copies of all certifications required for
consideration - Flu vaccination required for clearance to start
Additional Information - Responsibilities include running morning
huddles and monthly team meetings, attending bed meetings, managing
staff and call schedules, overseeing time and attendance,
participating in value analysis, managing performance improvement
projects and PIPs, and collaborating with infection control for SPD
- May occasionally be expected to step into cases to assist staff,
though this is not a routine expectation - Manager will oversee
approximately 45–50 tenured staff members - Support structure
includes a VP, Charge RNs for PACU and OR, an SPD Charge, surgeons,
anesthesiologists, CRNAs, and a House Supervisor available nights
and weekends - New Employee Orientation (NEO) provided; remainder
of the first week will be dedicated to unit orientation - Business
casual dress code required; no jeans or open-toe shoes - Free
parking available on-site - RTO requests must be submitted and
approved through the manager; all RTO should be disclosed at the
time of consideration - Candidates whose permanent address is 100
miles south/southwest of Bangor, ME are eligible; those living 100
miles north are reviewed on a case-by-case basis - First-time
travelers will be considered, though travel experience is preferred
