Employer invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology. We seek outstanding applicants with the capacity to develop vigorous, innovative and externally supported research programs in areas that will complement and expand on one or more existing strengths in Cystic Fibrosis (CF) research at Dartmouth. Candidates may focus on epithelial biology, airway infections, gut and airway microbiomes, bioinformatics, immunology, metabolism, or strategies towards genetic or drug-mediated treatments of CF. The CF research community at Dartmouth has strong basic and translational components, and successful candidates will be expected to work collaboratively with a vibrant group of interdisciplinary scientists with strengths in microbiology, immunology, cell biology, biochemistry and computational biology. Joint appointments in relevant other departments are encouraged. The successful candidate will join a newly established Dartmouth cluster initiative in the area of Personalized Treatments for Cystic Fibrosis. This institution-wide program is supported by a new endowment at Dartmouth and multiple center grants, including the Dartmouth CF Research Center and the Lung Biology Center. Opportunities for innovative research method development and application also exist through access to Dartmouth's Core Centers, Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSA; called Synergy), supercomputing networks (e.g., Discovery). Candidates may also benefit from interactions with two NIH Centers for Biomedical Research Excellence (COBREs) in Biomolecular Targeting and Molecular Epidemiology. A generous start-up package, as well as access to state-of-the art research facilities, will be provided. Individuals will be given opportunities for mentorship and teaching of students in relevant Ph.D. and MS graduate programs (e.g., the Molecular and Cellular Biology Graduate Program, the Program in Experimental & Molecular Medicine, and the Program in Quantitative Biomedical Sciences). NIH training grants, including those in Cystic Fibrosis, Host-Microbe Interactions, Immunology of Myeloid and Lymphoid Cells, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Quantitative Biomedical Sciences are available to support trainees in areas relevant to successful candidates. Candidates must have a Ph.D., MD or equivalent and relevant postdoctoral experience.
