Product Safety Manager
Stanley Access Technologies, part of the Allegion family of brands,
is looking for a passionate Product Safety Manager to work as part
of a highly engaged small team within a global organization of
12,000+ employees, representing 30+ brands (including Stanley
Access Technologies, Schlage, Von Duprin and LCN) focused on
safety, security and access management. You'll work on solutions
that will enable seamless access and help keep you and your loved
ones safe and secure where they work, live and thrive.
What You Will Do:
Gain detailed knowledge of products, product lines, product history
and related subjects.
Provide direction in matters related to product safety, proactively
promoting product safety and champion required corrective
actions.
Assist defense counsel and claims/litigation staff including
preparation of discovery responses, expert opinion reports,
depositions and trial testimony.
Perform and document installed product site inspections related to
claims per AAADM (American Association of Automatic Door
Manufacturers) inspector certification training.
Research and analyze claims and product safety matters. Advise
product liability counsel on potential product safety issues.
Assist defense counsel in providing required documentation of
product design, manufacture, testing, and company history as
requested.
Focus on safety, certification and compliance of new and existing
products to applicable standards.
Maintain certified products through support of internal/external
audits relative to documented certification requirements.
Represent Company in industry trade groups, standards advisory
committees and governmental regulatory agencies.
Review product manuals and on-product warnings for safety and code
compliance.
Review marketing materials and claims from a product safety/truth
in advertising perspective.
What You Need to Succeed:
Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering, or in Mechanical
Engineering with significant electrical engineering education
and/or real world, practical electrical engineering experience.
15+ years of experience in engineering design, development,
testing, manufacturing automatic doors or similar/relatable
products.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Hands-on experience with electromechanical systems.
Experience with various sensor systems (e.g., microwave, infrared,
vision-based, laser, etc).
Prior experience in a product liability position is a plus,
including experience testifying as a product expert in product
litigation trials is also preferred.
Education, training, and/or experience in materials, forensic
product inspection, standards, and compliance agency certifications
is a plus.
AAADM inspector certification is desirable.
Overall working knowledge of Company structure, organization,
operations, and product line is preferred.
Willingness to travel as required, up to 25%. Position involves
periodic travel as follows:
Travel to accident scenes, testing laboratories or other facilities
to inspect product involved in claims or litigation.
Travel to give depositions, to assist in preparation for trial, or
to testify at trial, hearings, alternative dispute resolutions,
meetings, or forums.
Travel to represent Company at industry trade groups, standards
advisory groups, governmental regulatory groups, or other groups as
required.
