POSITION SUMMARY: The Early Head Start Nurse provides Early Head Start and childcare partners with oversight of all health and safety program components, as required by federal Head Start Performance Standards and state of Connecticut Day Care Licensing Regulations.# Conducts initial health and nutrition assessments for all enrolled children in their home and maintains health records for all enrolled children.# Educates program staff and parents on relevant child health issues and participates in regular family case conferences.# Conducts home visits, as needed. # EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Must be certified as an RN.# EXPERIENCE: Must have working knowledge of pediatric care, birth to five years, and a minimum of 5 years of experience. Should have experience with families from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. COMPETENCIES: The position requires strong written, oral communication, organizational and motivational skills, and personal computer skills.# Must be comfortable using Windows-based WORD, OUTLOOK, and EXCEL.# Employee must possess and maintain a valid driver#s license and have access to reliable transportation to travel between multiple work sites in order to perform essential duties.# Proof of valid driver license, current auto insurance identification card, current vehicle registration and a driving record free of any major violations is required to make home visits to monitor program staff, which may involve exposure to a variety of neighborhoods and home environments, young children and possible pets.# ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Disclaimer: Job descriptions are not intended, nor should they be construed to be, exhaustive lists of all responsibilities, skills, efforts or working conditions associated with the job.# They are intended to be accurate reflections of the principal duties and responsibilities of this position.# These responsibilities and competencies listed below may change from time to time. # ######### Job-Specific Competency 1.##### Conducts initial health assessments within 45 days of enrollment. 2.##### Gathers information to formulate preventative or intervention services, as evidenced by records; ensures well child visits and up-to-date immunizations. 3.##### Educates families and staff on the benefits of EPSDT screenings; provides staff and parents with information on child health issues on a regular or as-needed basis. 4.##### Conducts file reviews monthly to ensure updated healthcare information is obtained from physicians. 5.##### Updates healthcare summaries regularly to reflect comprehensive healthcare status of children. 6.##### Effectively coordinates collaborative healthcare reviews/home visits with staff and families. 7.##### Conducts home visits as needed; for prenatal mothers, conducts one prenatal visit and another visit two weeks after the birth of the child. 8.##### Documents and maintains an Individualized Health Plan for all enrolled special needs children. 9.##### Participates in regular family case conferences, and provides individual consultation as needed. 10.# Upholds requirements of mandated reporter status.
