Job DescriptionJob Title: Direct Support ProfessionalPosition
SummaryThe Direct Support Professional is responsible for a variety
of duties related to the overall care of individuals with
Developmental Disabilities who reside in New Tides Residential
(NTR) programs. This includes direct care of program, individuals
and implementation of Person-Centered Plans (PCP), Behavior
Management Plans, Positive Support Plans and Functional
Assessments. Direct Support Professionals are required to perform
all duties in accordance with the State of Maine regulations and
New Tides Residential policies and procedures.Essential Duties and
ResponsibilitiesTraining:
- Complete and maintain all required State mandates trainings
such as Certified Residential Medication Administer (CRMA),
CPR/First Aid, Direct Support Professional/College of Direct
Support (DSP/CDS), Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI), and New
Tides Residential core training within 90 days of employment;
- Attend meetings and trainings sessions as required by the State
of Maine and NTR;
- Completes annual trainings related to client's Person-Centered
Plan, Behavior Management Plans, Positive Support Plans, Functional
Assessments, and other related plans.Daily Programming: ● Provide
transportation to and from activities; ● Assist in the
implementation of individual plans and behavior plans goals; ●
Assist individuals in the pursuit of recreational, social and
community activities based on individual preferences and individual
plans;
- ● Assist and encourage individuals to establish social
networks; promote participation and involvement in community
outings;Ensure each individual's rights are protected and not
violated;● Treat individuals with dignity and respect at all
times.Activities of Daily Living: ● Administer all medications to
individuals, as prescribed by his/her medical professional; ●
Encourage individuals to attend to their personal hygiene and dress
appropriately before a community outing;● Encourage individuals to
assist in the preparation of healthy meals and snacks as
appropriate to their individual plan;● Keep the residential program
clean and organized. Encourage individuals to participate in home
beautification and upkeep, as appropriate;● Teach individuals daily
living skills such as household chores, laundry, dish washing,
etc., as appropriate and according to their individual
plan.Communication:● Report any noted problems to the House Manager
or NTR On-Call Supervisor immediately and complete a written
incident report/Reportable Event form;● Reports all medical related
incidents to the House Manager, NTR delegating nurse and or NTR
On-Call Supervisor immediately and complete a written incident
report/Reportable Event form;● Acts as a representative for the
individual in a professional manner when required, to guardians,
families, case managers, State officials, community providers,
local businesses and employers;● Must maintain confidentiality at
ALL times;● Communicates with House Manager when items related to
individual's personal needs to be purchased. Teamwork: ● Assists
the Director of Operations and or agency designee in the
preparation of the annual Person-Centered Planning meeting; ●
Treats all individuals and coworkers with dignity, respect and
fairness; ● Provides support to other team members when individuals
are having behavioral issues; ● Assist in the daily upkeep on the
residential program.Documentation:● Documents all program data,
including but not limited to: individual plan data, behavior plan
data, mileage logs, and supply acquisition forms;● Documents
individual's health (i.e., seizure charts, weight, bowel movements,
fluid intake) according to the individual's plan;● Ensure all
documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner;●
Ensure Medication Administration Records (MARS) entries are
accurate and complete daily;● Completes communication log,
accurately and completely into Therap;● Clocks in and out before
and after every shift.Safety:● Reports unsafe conditions,
environment and equipment to the House Manager, Director of
Operations and or NEW TIDES on call supervisor immediately;●
Constant monitoring for client safety at all times;● Follow safety
protocols to foster a safe working environment.Complete all other
duties assigned.Essential Job Requirements: ● Must have a vehicle
that is registered, inspected and covered by an insurance company;
● Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record; ●
Experience working with people who have intellectual disabilities
or Autism, preferred;
