The Lead Inspector provides support to inspection staff pertaining
to best practices, training, development, and quality/drawing
interpretations. He/She/They performs advanced inspection
activities of product, materials, first piece inspection, and
in-process monitoring as required. This positions reports to the
Manager, Quality Control and will communicate regularly with
regarding quality issues and work assignments to meet inspector
development goals and production schedules.
This is a first shift position. Hours are 6AM - 3:30PM - this
includes one hour of mandatory overtime at the front end of shift
for a required 45 hour week.
OT pay is 1.5x the hourly rate for all hours in excess of 40 in a
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Support and advance inspector development programs. Provide
technical leadership/training as needed to inspection staff.
Address quality concerns/questions presented by inspection
Develop and implement process improvements relating to the
inspection process. Using knowledge of inspection equipment and
blue print reading, provide feedback and insight on appropriate and
accurate gaging methods according to the blue print requirements.
Ensure that production schedules and customer requirements are
Draft and update ISO procedures as needed. Continuous improvement
of inspection processes.
As needed - perform visual and dimensional inspection of various
mechanical components and assemblies to close tolerance. Perform
first piece, in-process & final inspection.
As needed - Identify defects in surface, dimensional, visual and
non-conformities (material, documentation and workmanship) to
blueprints and Kamatics' quality standards. Report non-conformance
of materials or unusual conditions to Quality Manager and cell
Demonstrate mastery using the following basic inspection devices to
verify drawing specifications: caliper, micrometer, dial bores,
chamfer gage, profilometer.
Demonstrate mastery using the following advanced inspection
device(s) to verify drawing specifications: optical comparator,
sunnen gage, trimos height stand.
Demonstrate mastery using the following specialty inspection
devices to verify drawing specifications: Johnson tri-roll, sin
plate, torque gage.
Demonstrate proficiency with the following specialty inspection
devices: swing gage, contracer, digital comparator, cadillac gage,
Demonstrate mastery in measuring the following GD&T items:
roundness, parallelism, concentricity, runout, perpendicularity,
flatness, total runout, true position, material modifiers.
Demonstrate proficiency in measuring the following GD&T items:
Demonstrate mastery with CMM operation to inspect product. Able to
calibrate probes as necessary.
Perform all responsibilities within productivity and quality
expectations. Follow work procedures. Provide support to achieve
short-term and long-term department/company goals.
Maintain records, data and logs as necessary. Create inspection
forms such as Inspection Methods Sheets, First Article Inspection
Data and other related forms.
Navigate computer files and software to acquire necessary items for
inspection, verification, etc. Use software such as Microsoft Excel
to create spreadsheets and tools to present/analyze data.
Maintain clean and safe work environment. Follow safety and
environmental procedures/programs and regulations. Contribute to 5S
program. Report safety incidents to supervisor.
Provide a high level of service to all internal and external
customers. Contribute to positive teamwork environment.
Perform other duties as assigned. Participate in training/learning
other positions. Accomplish related results as needed.
Education: Associates degree in technical/machine technology
program or equivalent experience
Experience: 5 years of manufacturing inspection experience
