OverviewThe Drug Diversion Specialist provides oversight and direction for the daily operations of the DH Drug Diversion and Prevention team. The diversion Specialist is accountable for all aspects of drug diversion education, prevention, monitoring, investigation, and reporting for DHMC.Responsibilities1.Establishes and maintains the structure and processes of a comprehensive Drug Diversion and Prevention Program. 2.Provides leadership in multidisciplinary education activities related to drug diversion.3.Designs comprehensive surveillance and auditing programs to detect drug diversion.4.Creates awareness of current analytic systems for detection capabilities.5.Collects and tracks diversion-related data from across the institution, including medication handling issues, medication security issues, concerns about healthcare provider behavior performance, controlled substance billing rejections, refusals to sign verbal orders and patient complaints related to unrelieved pain.6.Maintains a diversion database containing all data collected that may relate to diversion.7.Leads the investigation process of suspected drug diversion incidents.8.Leads Root Cause Analysis after diversion noted to gain insight into opportunities to mitigate risk in other similar areas.9.Ensures that internal and external regulatory reporting occurs as required following each diversion event, in collaboration with legal counsel.10. Convenes the response team to analyze data of suspected diversion cases.11. Chairs the Drug Diversion and Prevention Team12. Develops and maintains drug handling, diversion prevention, detection and reporting policies.13. Collaborates with all relevant departments on controlled medication and diversion issues, and serve as a resource for all staff.14. Presents institutional drug diversion reports to Senior Leaders and Board of Trustees as requested.15. Serves as a liaison to affiliates and to the greater community.16. Performs other duties as required or assigned. Qualifications--- Master's Degree in Nursing with 5 years of clinical practice and leadership experience. --- Experience in drug diversion prevention processes. --- Ability to facilitate change and work collaboratively with diverse, multidisciplinary teams. --- Demonstrated excellence in facilitation, teaching, and interpersonal skills as well as experience in regulatory requirements. --- Strong supervisory skills. --- Ability and willingness to be available on call. --- Keep current with on relevant DEA, Board of Pharmacy, FDA, EPA, TJC, standards and regulations.
