Southern State Correctional Facility has immediate openings for Correctional Officers. Correctional Officers with the Vermont Department of Corrections work in a system that believes in the basics of human change. With differentials, earn up to $25.00-$28.50/HR($3.00 Facility + $2.00-$2.50 Shift Differential + $1.50 Weekend and $1.50 in other potential differentials per hour).Overtime hourly rate $35.00 $42.00/HR paid after 8 hours in a day.$2750.00 Recruitment/Retention bonus for all individuals hired from July 3rd, 2022 to July 1st, 2023.*Correctional Officer Work Schedule: ** 50/50 work/life balance.* 12 hour shifts, 2-2-3 schedule (work 2 days, off 2 days, work 3 days, off 2 days, work 2 days, off 3 days - repeat).* 3 day weekend every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.* 7 days off in 14 day pay period*Correctional Officer Qualifications: ** High school graduation or equivalent AND two (2) years or more full-time work experience.* OR One (1) year or more of college level course work AND one (1) year or more of full-time work experience.* OR Two (2) years or more of college level coursework.* Adequate physical condition to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.*Correctional Officer Preferred Qualifications: ** Experience working in a correctional setting* Military experience*Correctional Officer Responsibilities / Duties: ** Responsible for the supervision, custody, treatment, and training of inmates confined in a correctional facility.* Duties are performed under the supervision of higher-ranking staff and in accordance with operational procedures of the assigned facility.* All employees of the Agency of Human Services perform their respective functions adhering to four key practices: customer service, holistic service, strength-based relationships and results orientation.The start of your career in Corrections begins with a week at the Southern State Correctional Facility observing the duties and role of a Correctional Officer. This is followed by six weeks of instruction at the Vermont Correctional Academy, where you will learn the core skill set of a corrections professional.
