Medcentrek is seeking a Substance Abuse Counselor in support of the Naval Branch Health Clinic in Groton, CT. This position is full-time, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week, normally from the hours of 7:00AM - 5:00PM This position is assigned to the Substance Abuse Clinic. In addition, the Substance Abuse Counselor may provide services in the Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury Division. Qualifications: Education: Graduate from a behavioral science program with specialized training in substance abuse and chemical dependency treatment. Certification: Maintain a national certification credential by the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors OR National Board of Certification Counselors OR the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse. One year of experience as a Substance Abuse Counselor after graduation. Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Certified Addictions Counselor. Core Duties: Perform a full range of Certified Addiction Counselor duties, in accordance with assignment and consistent with the scope of practice for profession, including but not limited to, medical care treatment and patient education in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner. Obtain or provide relevant information that will facilitate treatment and assist in developing programs. Provide assessment of substance abuse and addiction. Identify and document medical consequences of alcohol and other substance use, including withdrawal and detoxification. Facilitate the placement and management of patients in appropriate levels of care within the continuum of care model of the treatment of addictive disorders General Job Duties: Obtain or provide relevant information that will facilitate treatment, assist in developing programs, and service delivery relating to the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP). Conduct comprehensive substance abuse screening/assessments with patients seeking an evaluation voluntarily, or at the direction of their commands, the court, medical, or other referral sources using medical and psychological evaluation to establish individually suitable treatment programs. Compose and forward to commands written correspondence defining evaluation and recommendations. Writes case histories and discharge summaries. Provide assessment of substance abuse and addiction. Conduct treatment intakes and develops individual treatment plans. Provide individual and group counseling for clients with substance abuse issues. Identify and document medical consequences of alcohol and other substance use, including withdrawal and detoxification. Facilitate the placement and management of patients in appropriate levels of care within the continuum of care model of the treatment of addictive disorders. Perform case management, including referral assistance for patients with problems other than substance abuse. Delegate tasks and duties in the clinical direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and clinic activities. Provide technical guidance to administrative personnel. Maintain records, reports, correspondence, and files, required by local directives and current instructions. Participate in the SARP outreach program.
