- -PROGRAM: Beckley Day Program (BDP) -DIVISION: - - - Children,
Youth and Family Services -DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: - BDP Special
Educator -SUMMARY OF POSITION: -Provide academic instruction and
support, in collaboration with BDP Special Educator, to children
with severe emotional and behavioral challenges. Implement academic
programming and provide academic classroom support as directed by
BDP Special Educator/Program Coordinator. - Assist BDP Special
Educator in the daily routines of the classroom, organization of
classroom materials, and academic programming. -Specific Duties and
Responsibilities: -
- Provide instructional academic classroom support in language
arts, math, science, and social studies for students K-6.
- Provide office related support to BDP Special Educator
including but not limited to: photocopying, data entry, filing
materials, etc.
- Develop and lead age appropriate enrichment activities for
elementary aged students both individually and in the group
setting.Complete all agency required paperwork.Follow all of the
behavioral and crisis plans for the youth.Participate in weekly
meetings with BDP core team.Participate in semimonthly staff
meetings.
- Participate in summer and non-academic programming and
development of activities.Provide client transportation in your own
vehicle to and from community activities, mental health
appointments and school. Staff is responsible to carry adequate
insurance coverage.
- To familiarize, implement and comply with WCMHS policies and
procedures.
- Willingness to learn crisis de-escalation and passive restraint
techniques.
- Ability to physically restrain children and youth who are a
danger to self or others.
- To manage the physical safety of client and others. - Able to
lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Participate in supervision activities as determined by the
Program Coordinator.Follow supervision directives.
- Perform other duties / responsibilities as assigned.
-Requirements: - BA in education related field required with 2
years experience working in an elementary classroom setting with
students with emotional and behavioral challenges. Excellent
organizational skills, computer skills, and attention to detail.
Good verbal communication and writing skills. Ability to work
collaboratively with elementary aged children, school staff, WCMHS
staff, and other professionals. - Possession of a valid driver's
license, excellent driving record and access to a safe, reliable,
insured vehicle are required. - Full time with benefits. -When
