    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Safety & Compliance Specialist will ensure employees are properly trained and comply with health and safety practices and regulatory standards. Responsible for establishing written policies and work procedures that will create and maintain a safe workplace. Assist with assuring compliance with permits and state regulations.

    The Safety & Compliance Specialist must have excellent attention to detail to identify hazards, be able to discover opportunities for improving conditions and execute various safety programs. The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential.

    The goal is to ensure the workplace meets all regulatory expectations and actively supports occupational health and safety. This position pays between $20.00-$23.00 per hour DOE.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES
    • Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to regulatory guidelines
    • Prepare and enforce policies to enhance the culture of health and safety
    • Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the regulations
    • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
    • Monitor compliance to policies, permits and practices by inspecting resort facilities and employees
    • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
    • Responsible for workplace injury prevention program
    • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover root causes
    • Perform and assist with utility locating
    • Meet with state & local officials for facility inspections
    • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measure
      • Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics.
      • Direct reporting to the Senior Mountain Operations Manager
      • Other duties as requested by the Risk Manager, VP of Operations or Senior Leadership Team

        EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

        Education: High school diploma, required. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college in resort management, risk management or similar experience preferred.

        Experience: Resort operations experience a plus.

        QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

        • This position requires strong skill sets in the areas of team building, supervision and development. Effective written and verbal communication, public speaking, analytical thinking and problem solving.
        • Demonstrated ability to manage safety initiatives and effectively implement employee safety and training procedures.
        • General expense, resource management and office administration.
        • Strong desire to build and cultivate relationships with co-workers and guests of the resort.
        • Intermediate skiing/snowboarding skills required to access employee work areas on the mountain.

          TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

          Occasional travel may be required.

          PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

          This position will require work during weekends and holidays.

          Office Environment:
          • Able to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position a minimum of 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
          • Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other common office equipment on a constant basis.
          • Auditory and visual acuity to operate computers, phones, mobile devices and basic office equipment on a constant basis.
          • Ability to work for extended periods of time sitting, bending, reaching, and speaking on a constant basis.
          • Ability to work for extended periods of time standing, walking, kneeling, pushing and pulling on an occasional basis.
          • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
            Mountain Environment:
            • The primary physical environment in which this position works is out of doors with a high exposure level to cold, snow, wind, rain, bugs, sun, high altitude, extreme heights, lightning, etc...
            • The degree of strenuous activity within the job is high.
            • Additional strenuous physical activity may include walking or hiking upon uneven, challenging terrain with heavy tools or equipment.
            • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
            • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
