ASAP About the Position Histotechnologist / Histology Technician |
Augusta, ME Position Overview The Histotechnologist / Histology
Technician provides comprehensive histology laboratory support,
including specimen grossing, tissue processing, staining, and
assistance with surgical pathology. This role is essential to
ensuring accurate diagnoses and supporting pathology services in an
acute care environment. Location & Schedule Location: Augusta, ME
(hospital/VA-style setting) Schedule: Monday Friday, 6:00 AM 2:00
PM No nights, weekends, or holidays Key Responsibilities Gross and
accession tissue specimens into the laboratory information system.
Perform tissue embedding, microtomy, routine staining, and
cover-slipping. Prepare and perform special stains and other
advanced procedures as requested by pathologists. Assist
pathologists with surgical pathology sectioning, frozen sections,
and autopsies as required. Maintain quality control, documentation,
and compliance with all laboratory policies and regulatory
standards. Serve as backup morgue assistant when needed, including
body identification, procedural assistance, and post-procedure
cleanup. Required Qualifications & Skills Bachelor s degree
required. Minimum of 3 years of recent histology and cytology
experience. Strong knowledge of histology techniques, specimen
handling, and laboratory safety protocols. Fluent in spoken and
written English. Health, Compliance & Training Requirements
Negative TB test (TST or IGRA). Proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps,
Rubella, Varicella. Vaccinations: Tdap, annual Influenza, full
COVID-19 series. Hepatitis B series or signed declination with
supporting results. Current BLS or ACLS (renewed every 2 years).
Annual privacy, HIPAA, and information security training as
required by facility policy.
