Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities: Meets daily or as needed with Food
Safety Supervisor regarding departmental status and strategy. Cover
for the Food Safety Supervisor. Does initial training (orientation)
for food safety, safety, food defense and biosecurity. How to use
the Hortimax system. Assists with annual refresher training.
Oversee the locker program. Assigns lockers and locks. Monitors the
sanitation, housekeeping, and pest control technicians in GH1 and
GH2. Helps write performance reviews and performance improvement
plans (PlP's). Help with mentoring and setting SMART goals. Enforce
good manufacturing practices and good agricultural practices for
food safety. Monitor production activities for compliance to
standards. Sample, test, audit and monitor to verify that all
processes, procedures, and products are being manufactured in a
safe & compliant manner. Maintain adherence to company and customer
policies, safety standards and good manufacturing practices.
Monitors equipment and supplies to properly support the completion
of departmental tasks. Crosstrain and assist in other areas of the
department as needed. Documentation Review to ensure documents are
filled out completely and accurately for Food safety. FLC and H2A:
Conduct regular contract and H2A housing inspections when needed.
Transport H2A workers to and from WPH, housing or other necessary
transport as needed. Quality and Sanitation programs. Maintain all
documentation binders ensuring they are up to date and investigate
missing documents. Data entry of various information including but
not limited to: Sphera – SDS system, Test Results from Mastronardi
water samples, sanitation swabs and environmental swabs. Glass and
Brittle Plastic Review. Pest trending. Glass breakage trending.
Training attendance records, etc Take swabs and collect water
samples for laboratory analysis to support environmental,
sanitation, food safety and regulatory programs. Review and verify
laboratory analysis documentation is maintained. Perform monthly
chemical review. Perform State Water Testing as required by the
Maine Drinking Water Keeps Water License current and attends credit
earning continuous education training as needed. Maintains HACCP
certificate. Obtain Worker Protection Standard training for
trainer’s certificate. Obtain PSA Grower Training Course
certificate. Obtain and maintain fork truck license. Must be able
to work flexible hours based on an ever-changing production
schedule. Transport employees to and from WPH, housing or other
necessary transport as needed. Perform all duties in a safe,
competent, and professional manner abiding by all BYF policies and
guidelines, including employee hygiene and GAP procedures .
Education/Background Requirements: High school diploma or general
education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience
and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and
experience are minimal required entry skills. Previous experience
in QA is highly preferred. If not within the first 12 months of
employment. Licensed Water System operator Minimum of 5 years’
experience in the quality assurance/agricultural/food safety field.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Excellent
organizational and analytical skills. GMP GAP and HACCP certified
preferred. Understand job specific applications of GMPs and GAP.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules,
operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Food
Defense training Ability to write routine reports and
correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before a group of
customers or employees. Must be punctual. Depending on needs, the
employee may work outside on an infrequent basis. Work with
enthusiasm and sense of urgency daily Must wear required PPE
(Personal Protective Equipment) as provided. Perform other duties
as required or directed. Must be able to apply common sense
understanding to carry out multiple tasks throughout the day. Must
be able to deal with a variety of specifications that are
oftentimes challenged by variables that are beyond our control.
Must be able to do simple math. Traveling: Some travel may be
expected for this position Ability to potentially travel
Internationally between greenhouse operations. Working Conditions:
Greenhouse Environment, where the temperature averages 70°F or more
and may exceed 100 degrees. Occasional lifting and physical lifting
may be required from twenty-five up to fifty pounds. Stand for
extended times, walking on concrete and uneven surfaces. Sit for
extended periods of time. Use of hands and fingers, handle, touch
and manipulate items. Speak and/or hear. Walk and reach with hands
or arms. Occasionally stoop, reach, kneel, crouch, and twist at the
waist. Be comfortable with heights of 10 – 15 feet while working on
raised trolley platform. Must be able to work around bees. Ability
to work during off hours to address emergency conditions or
situations that may arise. May be working around high-speed
equipment and forklift/pallet truck traffic. We are pleased to
