Job Description: Summary: Reporting to the Chief Actuary, Sun Life International this role has a dual focus; manage model development in support of a progressive and evolving product portfolio and lead the IFRS 17 implementation of actuarial models. An associate director and an actuarial analyst report into this position. The Director will benefit from exposure to Sun Life's Canadian, US and Asian Actuarial teams and the markets that they support. Job Responsibilities: Devise and build actuarial processes for Sun Life International ("SLI") in support of the enterprise goal of implementing a modernized and repeatable reporting process for the IFRS 17 accounting framework in local operations. Lead IFRS 17 methods and assumption setting work. Proactively collaborate with SL Corporate, SL US and SL Asia to ensure a consistent & compliant approach across the business. Provide oversight of the valuation model build (in AXIS) for the Individual Life products launched out of SLI and the SLF Singapore branch. The modelling approach should meet the relevant Sun Life valuation principles and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries ("CIA") standards of practice. Build effective working relationships with the valuation and projections leads in SLI and lend strategic direction on exercises such as assumption setting process. Collaborate with SLI and SLF Singapore business partners to identify modeling needs, develop strategies to address these needs, and then coordinate with AXIS vendor and model owners to implement new functionality and required model modifications. Ensure required model modifications are implemented, model versions are consistent across SLI and SLF Singapore, and models are consistently up-to-date. Provide AXIS modeling subject matter expertise and assist in developing and sharing best practices with SLF US and SLF Asia AXIS users. Develop analytics to advance our strategic priorities and provide ad-hoc analysis required by senior management. Provide actuarial insight and modelling support for strategic initiatives as part of SL International HuBS, (for example M&A activity, product research, market assessment) to advance our strategic objectives and enable profitable long term growth. Manage one associate director and one actuarial analyst; attract, retain, and develop a diverse team of top talent as part of Sun Life's high performance culture. Perform other duties from time to time in support of business goals and senior management. 7+ years in-depth experience in life insurance actuarial practice, including valuation, modelling, pricing, and financial reporting.-- FSA, FCIA or equivalent actuarial designation with a university degree (Bachelor's degree or higher). Knowledge of AXIS preferred. Experience with IFRS 17 would be a plus. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills and demonstrated ability to think creatively to resolve issues. Self-motivated, organized and able to manage multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy while working toward challenging goals and deadlines. A strong team player with demonstrated experience collaborating with others in a multi-cultural workplace and in managing teams effectively. Management experience preferred. Takes accountability for own performance and that of the team. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to confidently and clearly communicate complex issues to a variety of audiences. Strong influencing skills to engage senior leadership and partners. Willingness to work some non-standard hours, often times having to liaise with other Sun Life offices after regular office hours, due to these being located in other time zones.
