Location This position is based in the Brookfield, WI area, serving a 31-bed intermediate care unit that caters to a diverse patient population including cardiac surgery, arrhythmia, stroke, respiratory failure, and sepsis patients. Responsibilities Provide skilled nursing care for cardiac and medical-surgical patients in an intermediate care (stepdown) unit. Monitor and manage patient conditions including heart failure, open heart surgeries, pacemaker placements, and other thoracic procedures. Interpret cardiac rhythms and manage routine cardiac care including arrhythmias, acute myocardial infarctions, and post-procedural care. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across primary and float units to deliver exceptional patient care. Maintain accurate patient records using the Epic electronic health record system. Adhere to established nursing standards and protocols in a fast-paced, multi-specialty unit. Float to related units as census demands, with full support and approval processes in place. Qualifications and Desired Experience Active WI or Compact Registered Nurse license. AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications. Minimum 1 year cardiac nursing experience; 2 years medical-surgical preferred. Comfortable with 4-5 patient ratios on night shifts; ICU nurses with stepdown experience are encouraged to apply. Previous travel nursing contract experience preferred. Proficiency with Epic charting within the last 12 months. Strong rhythm interpretation skills and familiarity with complex cardiac care. Ability to adapt to change, resilience, and strong work ethic. Schedule 12-hour night shifts Every other weekend and holiday rotation Guaranteed 36 hours per week for a 13-week contract Additional Information Float requirements to neighboring units and facilities. No on-call or call-back duties. COVID-19 vaccination required unless legally exempt.
